When Two Super Powers Meet
Posted on July 10, 2025

The super powers I would like to mention here are the Millennial and Gen Z.

  • In a stereotype situation with  the Millennial and Gen Z on opposite sides, one wanting to stick to proven methods and the other pushing for risks, need to be seen as an opportunity for growth and learning. Work spaces are areas where we see this tug of war of opinions and it is important to understand the backdrop of these situations. The truth of the matter is that these very seemingly apparent obstacles could sometimes be the beginning of an excellent rapport between the conflicting interests.
  • Primarily there are three areas of differences between the two generations. Communication styles, Work expectations and Approach to feedback.

  • While instant gratification is the hallmark of Gen Z, the millennial have organised templates for meetings and emails. They are more structured. The Gen Z prefer raw communication carrying the crux of the idea quick and fast.
  • While millennial are more concerned about the balance of work and life the Gen Z want work stability and safety.
  • When there is feedback formula that millennial follow, demand feedback or instant gratification is what Gen Z prefer so that they know what needs to change and when.

  • What Next?
  • These differences, though small, can cause problems if not handled well. But when used wisely, they can result in an active and progressive work atmosphere. If these are the gaps then we need to bridge the gap for results to show. On a closer look all these differences have their advantages and if we play to the strengths of both these groups we will see amazing changes.

  • 1. Build an Attitude of Learning
  • Millennial are natural learners. Since information was not easy to access, they have developed the habit of searching and researching for information and hence have acquired the approach over a period of time. The Gen Z on the other hand are self-taught. Availability in plenty has given them ample opportunities to learn on their own using technology or peer learning or by using cross training methods.
  • 2. Blend the Generation
  • Since both these generations have the tools with them to create a good output they can facilitate between themselves and bridge the gap to everybody’s advantage. The vision that is visualised by the millennial can be crystallised by the Gen Z with their ideas and digital interventions.
  • 3. Vocal Variety
  • Digital connect sometimes creates a social divide. The style of communication needs a change from person to person. Communication is perhaps the most volatile element that plays a role in social changes seen around us. Some of them respond to technology while some adhere to conventions and traditions. The ‘one size fits all’ theory does not suit communication between people and consequently we need to think differently.
  • 4. Work Space Freedom
  • Time and space flexibility is what both the groups want in varying degrees. Today as long as work gets done, depending on the industry, managements are open to flexibility to ensure quality of work.
  • 5. The Appreciation Dividend
  • One can never have more of appreciation. Irrespective of age, gender and position everybody yearns for appreciation. While millennial want to be praised and awarded in the open, Gen Z prefers personal recognition. A combination of both these styles would bring in a less attrition ratio.

  • Lead the Empowered workforce into the Future The difference in the generation is here to stay and wisdom is to make the best of the differences and create a win win situation for everybody involved. Collaboration between them and capitalising on the strength of both the generation can be a rewarding experience The aim isn't to remove generational differences but to make the most of them.
  • Changes have to be part of policy and strategy planning to ensure satisfaction of the multi-generational groups. Constant up gradation of workforce, technology alignment and sharp career growth plan will maintain staff spirits and healthy competition.
  • Balancing multiple generations in work space is an art and SB Global has the tools essential to bridge the gap that exists that obstructs work and productivity. We have learning platforms that boost communication, fosters teamwork to build a workspace that can change and grow to match the vision of the company.
